Downtown Austin
Downtown Austin is an exciting place to live, work, and play. It’s the central business district of the city, and living in a downtown apartment or condo is an experience you won’t find anywhere else. Bordering UT, this community seamlessly combines government, business, entertainment, arts, and city living to create a uniquely Austin vibe. More than 300 downtown retailers sell everything from designer sneakers to office supplies. New, modern high-rises are common downtown, but you’ll still find many charming historical buildings well-preserved, especially in the neighborhood’s six National Register Historic Districts. Downtown is also home to the Austin Community College (ACC) Rio Grande Campus.
East Austin
East Austin is a cultural melting pot with excellent proximity to UT Austin and Downtown and, as a rule of thumb, lower apartment prices than West Campus and North Campus. The area has seen a resurgence recently and has undergone a lot of redevelopment, making it a very livable (and still affordable) part of the city. It’s now home to some amazing restaurants, a vibrant arts and entertainment scene, and new condos and master-planned communities that sit next to historical older homes that give the area its character. Forbes called East Austin one of America’s “hippest hipster neighborhoods”, based on its walkability, coffee shops per capita, eateries, food trucks, and local farmers’ markets.
Hyde Park
Hyde Park is a charming, quiet, and centrally located neighborhood just minutes from UT Austin and Downtown. Students and locals consider it one of the city’s most desirable areas to call home. Hyde Park has a laid-back vibe, beautiful tree-shaded avenues, the closest full-size grocery store to UT, scores of terrific local businesses, and ample parking. Apartments and condos are sprinkled around the area, but Hyde Park is mostly comprised of houses and duplexes. It has good public transit options, while also being bike and pedestrian-friendly.
Mueller
Mueller is a new award-winning master-planned green community located just a couple miles from UT Austin, and the secret is now out – it’s an awesome place to live! This mixed-use urban village, which sits on the 700-acre site that was vacated when Austin’s airport moved to southeast Austin in 1999, has been designed with sustainability and livability in mind. Mueller is still in the middle of its growth spurt (the first residences were built in 2007), but it is well on its way to becoming home to 13,000 people, 13,000 employees, 4 million square feet of office and retail, 5,700+ modern homes (comprised of apartments, houses, condos, and townhouses), and 140 acres of parks, trails, and open space.
North Central Austin
North Central Austin is an eclectic collection of smaller neighborhoods with quick and easy access to the city’s core (UT and Downtown), whether you’re using public transit or driving. If you want to live in a trendy part of town within walking distance of great shopping, dining, and entertainment, the North Lamar and Burnet Road corridors have become very hot thanks to recent retail, restaurant, and apartment development. If you prefer a more traditional neighborhood with tree-lined streets and a suburban feel, North Central Austin also has some beautiful pocket neighborhoods tucked away from the lively corridors.
